Short History of the Constitution

The objective of this work is to present a short reference to the historical setting in which the constitution of the Pakistan Student Association at Western Michigan University came into being.

The variables which helped develop the rise of the constitution of Pakistan Student Association were dictated by events that brought about a general feeling of the Pakistani student population that its recreation was most necessary.

Preamble

The aim and purpose of the Organization is to :

  1. Provide a cultural and social forum for the Pakistani students.
  2. Enhance academic and non-academic activities.
  3. Creating a better understanding amongst ourselves, the Pakistani students, and the community at large.

Article 1

This organization shall be known as Paksitan Student Association.

Article 2

Section A: Membership and Qualification.

  1. Membership in the Pakistan Student Association shall be open to all the students of Western Michigan University and the community of Kalamazoo.
  2. The organization will not deny membership to the students on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them.
  3. In order to become a member there is a fee which is decided by the elected body.

Section B: Voting Privilages.

Members shall be entitled to vote on the following matters in the general body meetings:

  1. Election of officers
  2. Annual Budget

Article 3

Section A:Officers.

Following officers will be elected by the members each academic year.

  1. President
  2. Vice President
  3. General Secretary
  4. Treasurer
  5. Director, Information

Following officers will be elected by the members each academic year.

Article 4

Section A:Duties of the Officers.

The duties of the officers will be as follows and/or as may be dicided in a general meeting and/or an executive board meeting.

Section B: Qualifications for holding Office.

All members who are on academic, social, or personal probation shall not hold any elected or appointed office.

Article 5

Section A:Elections of Officers.

Section B: Filling Vacancies.

All members who are on academic, social, or personal probation shall not hold any elected or appointed office.

  1. In case of vacancy of the office of President, Vice President will assume the office.
  2. In case of vacancy of the office of any official other than the President, the executive board will decide who to assume the vacant office.

Section C: Resignation / Removal of Officers.

  1. The President or any other official may by writing under his/her hand addressed to the President or Vice President resign his/her office.
  2. Any officer of the association may be removed from the office in meeting of members with threefourth majority in the cases when either if he/she fails to perform his/her duties or when he/she remains excessively absent from meetings.

Article 6

Section A:Cabinet Meeting.

Cabinet meetings will be held every week on Friday or as when deemed necessary by the President.

Section B:General Meeting.

General meetings will be held once in a semester or as when deemed necessary by the President. At least one week notice will be given to members for the meeting.

Section C:Qourum.

A quorum for meeting will be fifty percent of members. In case a quorum is not present the meeting will be adjourned for a maximum of two days. Members present at the adjourned meeting will be the quorum for that meeting.
