Individuals are initiated into the Fraternity by a collegiate or alumni chapter. The fraternity extends an open invitation to those colleges and universities with preparation programs for physical education, health, recreation, dance, human performance, exercise science, sports medicine, and sports management. Existing collegiate and alumni chapters invite individuals to become members. Petitions are available for new collegiate and alumni chapters through the headquarters. Attendance to all Phi Epsilon Kappa meetings is required for all members. Unless you have a valid reason to be excused and have notified the Sergeant-at-Arms, or are considered a coactive member for the semester or year. Three unexcused absences and you are dismissed from the chapter.
Any student majoring or minoring in Health, P.E., Dance, Sports Medicine, Sports Studies, or Recreation shall meet the following requirements:
A. Free of administrative, social, or academic probation
B. Have a 3.0 gpa in the major
C. Have a 2.7 gpa overall
D. Have completed at least six (6) semester hours in the major
Co-active status requirements:
A. The member must be registered as a graduate student, student teaching, completing an off-campus internship, commutes greater than 30 miles, or has extenuating circumstances.
B. The member must submit a written request to the Sergeant-in-Arms within the first two weeks of the semester in which co-active status is being requested. Following the next Executive Board meeting, the applicant will be informed as to the status of the request. The decision of the Executive Board is final.
C. Approval of co-active status requires the member to pay their dues, attend initiation, and attend the Founder's Day banquet. The co-active member is responsible for picking up chapter minutes and announcements, and reading the information on the chapter calendar.
D. The co-active status excuses the member from chapter meetings, fundraisers, and required activities other than initiation and the banquet.
