FUNDRAISING

** ROCK WORKSHOPS - learn to make jewelry, key chains, bookmarks, coasters, bookends, and all sorts of things with the rocks you collect in the field.  Learn to polish and work rocks as well.  

** 3rd ANNUAL RAFFLE and AUCTION - APRIL 2007 - All year we collect items to put into a silent auction and raffle.  This is our largest fundraiser of the semester.  If you would like to buy a raffle ticket, please contact us or come to our meetings.  We are also still taking donations for items to add to the list of items we already have. 

** MUGS!  To see one, look in the Lloyd Schmaltz Mineral Museum display case, 1st floor of Rood Hall

OUTREACH:

** Informal student run informal seminars will begin in Jan 2005.  If you would like to volunteer to give a talk, please contact us.  Food and Beverages will be provided.  This is a good way to see what our professors do with the education we are getting.  We encourage everyone who is interested in the geosciences to attend.

** Three Rivers Middle School - Spring 2005- We had two visits with a group of 18 students involved with Science Olympiad.  We helped teach the students about fossils, hydrology and cartography.

PAST TRIPS:

** Structural Geology trip - April 2006 - We are attending the Structural Class trip with our Advisor Dr. Schmidt.  We will go to the southern Appalachian Mountains  for 4 days.

** Spring trip 2006- May 2nd - Southern Colorado, Northern New Mexico.  2 week trip that will travel through out the west.  Some highlights include:  Garden of the gods, Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Great Sand Dunes NP, World class outcrops, San Juan volcanics, Toas, Jamez Mountains, Valles Caldera, Soda Springs, San Ysidro, Albuquerque, Sandia Mountains, Bandalier NM, Frijoles Canyon, Shiprock, Black Canyon of the Gunnison... etc....

** Spring trip 2005: Destination: California!!!!  April 23-May 1, 2005
We will be traversing California from San Francisco area to Lake Tahoe and back.  The trip will cover a variety of geology.  Students going meet once a week to discuss the book "Assembling California" by John McPhee.  We will all be presenting a poster at the WMU Alumni Reception in April before we leave for the trip.  The posters give us experience on a certain location on the trip, so that we have a better geologic understanding before we get there, in order to make the most of the time we have.
