Recruiting
Men and women interested in becoming rowers/coxswains and transforming
their college experience into something elite, unique, and special are
more than welcome to attend our interest meetings in the fall and spring of every
year. 2006 Info Night Sept 6th @ 8pm.
Since rowing is a rare sport in American high schools, nearly all members
have had no rowing experience on joining WMU Crew team. This makes rowing a
very friendly sport; regardless of experience, new fall season athletes
will quickly learn the basics of the stroke and soon find themselves on
the water rowing modified races against WMU's varsity rowers.
On and off the water, rowing teaches discipline, teamwork, ambition and
instills confidence in its members. Given the full-body nature of the
stroke, rowers will undoubtedly find themselves in the best shape of their
lives come spring racing season, despite the athlete's background
(football, basketball, cross country, swimming). We are a club sport in name.
However, we behave like a varsity program, and compete at the highest level
of intercollegiate rowing. This is not a beer-drinking, social club or a fraternity
of sorts. The fall is a bit lighter in terms of time, but eventually, when we get
to the spring season it will be varsity-like in terms of time and effort.
The commitment will end up being 2.5 hours a day in the spring, plus traveling to
the various intercollegiate regattas.
Interested individuals should contact Coach Dave Morrison.broncocrew@email.com.
