Question
: What is BTN?

Answer: BTN stands for the Business Technology Network. This organization offers opportunities for Information Technology (IT) leadership and education through partnerships with industry, government and academia. BTN provides quality IT related education andinformation on relevant IT issues. BTN is a local student organization and does not have a national parent organization.

Question: Is this the old AITP?

Answer: Yes, it is. The chapter of AITP (Association of Information Technology Professionals) at Western elected a new e-board. Over the summer the new e-board, summer committee and faculty advisors chose to localize the chapter. The key benefit is the discounted dues that now stay completely within our organization. We encourage BTN members to also be AITP members, but it is not required.

Question: What does the Business Technology Network at Western do?

Answer: Currently, our chapter provides tech-related guest speaker activities, as well as tours of local businesses and organizations. Many of our guest speakers are prominent corporate figures, who have generously agreed to present their knowledge to the WMU community. The tours are designed to give students a glimpse of their future careers, as well as hands-on experience in the workplace.

In addition to these special events, we hold monthly general meetings for all interested students. Student members may also join committees within our chapter. These groups tackle organizational tasks such as: design and maintenance of this web site, fundraising, public relations, planning of activities, and more. This is your chance to become involved on campus!

As our student organization grows, we plan to offer our members many other attractive opportunities and activities. Possibilities include commercial web site development, trips to conferences and events, and more. Keep checking this web site for updates on our future.

Question: How can I get involved with BTN?

Answer: Attend a general meeting and receive and application. Our special events are intended for members only as the dues cover the costs of these events. General meetings do not require membership, so feel free to bring your friends. Check the schedule to find the next meeting time.

Question: How much are BTN dues?

Answer: Dues help pay for many activities that BTN offers its members. Only members can attend these events. For fall and spring semesters, dues are $20. That is $15 less than the AITP membership.
