Field Trips
The ASU takes a few field trips throughout the year to places
of Anthropological Interest; these may be museums, historical/archaeological
sites, or other places of cultural distinction.
Chicago
9th December 2006
We visited the Field Museum in Chicago and got a behind the
scenes tour from Dr. Chap Kusimba of the museum's Anthropology
Department. We saw "Tutankhamun and the Golden age of the
Pharaohs", "Evolving Planet" and "Gregor
Mendel: Planting the Seeds of Genetics" exhibits. We then
went to Chinatown for dinner at Evergreen.
Detroit/Ann Arbor
25 January 2006
We visited the African American History Museum in Detroit, then
headed to Ann arbor for some traipsing around town (Dawn Treader
bookstore was awesome!), a visit to the Kelsey Museum, and an
extremely unique dining experience at the Blue Nile Ethiopian
Restaurant.
Chicago
15 January 2005
We visited the Field Museum’s Machu Pichu exhibition and
also viewed the “Hero, Hawk, and Open Hand” exhibition
at the Chicago Art Institute.
Cahokia
Spring 2004
The ASU journeyed to Collinsville, Il, near St. Louis, to see
the great pyramid mounds at the ancient mid-western center of
Cahokia. This event included a viewing of the sunrise at the
Vernal Equinox from the ceremonial Woodhenge Calendar.
