About US

Students have come to find that involvement in the APICS student chapter at Western Michigan University will greatly enhance their professional development. This is evident because of the high participation that the chapter has from its members. The ASC, (APICS Student Chapter), has been able to develop into a strong organization with high commitment from its members because of the relationship it has with the professional parent chapter. This guidance has developed a well-organized ASC that provides its members with incredible speakers, tours, and networking opportunities at the local and regional level.

Regional Meeting Participation

The APICS regional meetings throughout Michigan and Wisconsin that the students of the Western Michigan University ASC have been able to attend have proved to be very educational experiences. It is a great opportunity for the students from different ASCs to be able to interact and share best practices that they bring from different chapters with each other. The meetings draw a lot of student chapters to them because of the chance to compete with their peers in a resource management competition. The students from each chapter are given a case problem that usually entails some kind of a supply management problem solving issue to solve as a team. The schools are given their case problem in the evening and are expected to have it solved by noon the next day. It will entail issues such as problems with lead times, make or buy decisions, or other types of manufacturing problems. The competition requires a typed paper of your teams' conclusions along with a formal presentation on your findings to the professional chapter. The students compete for monetary rewards for their individual chapters, as well as taking home the bragging rights. These competitions over the past two years have earned the WMU chapter over $2,000 in financial assistance. The thrill of the competition along with the ability to demonstrate practical knowledge that has been learned in supply management have made the competitions and region meetings a thoroughly educational experience for the ASC members. In addition to the competition, the students also have the opportunity to attend valuable workshops and network with professionals throughout the region.
