Volunteering with AMSA

One of our Chapter's main focuses is volunteer service within the community.  In our short history we have already won awards for the commitment of our volunteers, and last year alone logged over 5,000 hours of volunteering.  Our goal through volunteer work is to both provide vital support to the community and also to expose our members to diverse clinical experiences.

The Heritage Community

The Heritage Community of Kalamazoo is a locally owned and operated nonprofit assisted living community governed by a volunteer Board of Directors composed of community leaders.  WMU AMSA has a long history of volunteering at Director's Hall, an assisted living program within the Heritage Community.

Volunteering at Director's Hall is a 2-3 hour commitment, usually starting between 4:30 and 5:00 pm on Friday evenings.  Volunteers arrive as the residents are finishing dinner, and invite them to play card games, listen to music, and even play the occasional game of pool.  It is a rewarding and diverse experience that exposes our members to different disabilities most commonly associated with older adults.

Heritage Community, Director's Hall is located at 600 Golden Drive, Kalamazoo, Mich. 49001.  Click here for directions
